Just like at a friend's place
Here, in Kiwengwa, on the Eastern coast of the island, far from the hustle of cities and resorts, we decided to build a small hotel. We wanted our friends, acquaintances and many new people to come and visit us. We wanted to make them feel free and relaxed. Just like at a friend’s place. Thus, we chose the name MARAFIKI, which means FRIENDS in Swahili. We dreamed of creating an ideal place of holiday rest, far from civilisation while preserving African characteristics and living in harmony with nature and local culture.
We welcomed our first guests in December 2016.

Food plays an important role in our culture and taste is one of the senses enabling perception. This is why we do our best to ensure that our restaurant and our food are an invitation to a sensual journey deep into the richness of the island.
Developing the menu we were inspired by the traditional Zanzibar cuisine. We combined Zanzibar’s natural treasures: fish and seafood, tropical fruit, vegetables, herbs and spices with the specialties of Western cuisine. The dishes are varied, fresh and healthy, and they smell of spices. Once you add the European aesthetics of display, this culinary paradisemakes eating a pleasure for all the senses. Enjoy!
